In fact, study done on 90 children with normal intelligence, equally representing both second and third graders. While second graders treated all problems similarly, third graders showed greater brain engagement in solving complex problems and relied on working memory to solve simple problems making them cross-transfer information between two regions to solve problems efficiently.
