A lot of children across the U.S. were graduating without enough understanding of math a few years ago. So mathematicians and teachers studied how math is taught in countries where students do good on math tests. The result they came up with was the Common Core. This changed how math was taught.

The result was a set of recommendations called the Common Core. SFUSD learned from and built on the well-researched recommendations from these experts.
