Have You Heard of Explicit and Systematic Phonics Instruction?

Phonics was given a bad wrap in the 1970′s. However, kids can learn a lot from phonics if they are taught in the right way. Explicit and systematic phonics instruction helps children learn to read. This is done by starting with basic concepts and gradually adding slightly more complex ideas as time goes on.

Explicit means that we start with the simplest sound in the word then build out from patterns and syllables and then to the whole word.
