The Benefits of Massage for Children with Autism (Infographic)

Autistic Spectrum Disorder more commonly known as autism is a genetic disorder that can severely impact the diagnosed both physically and mentally. It can severely limit a person’s ability to comprehend and retain information, and interact and communicate with those around them. It is estimated that one in every 110 children is born with autism, and that number is growing at a substantial rate. There is no known cure for autism, as the disorder is genetic in nature. There are things that can be down however, to limit the effect that the symptoms can have on a person’s life. Studies show that massage therapy can be profoundly beneficial to those affected with autism. According to a study done by the Touch Research Institute, massage therapy can lead to positive effects both in school and at home. These effects include, but are not limited to, increased bonding with the caregiver, more stable emotional response, and alleviation from pain and sore muscles that often arise in autistic children due to the way they often unknowingly tense their muscles.
