Learning, test taking, and homework can be much more difficult for your students with an Auditory Processing Disorder. How can you help these students who have difficulty understanding what they hear get more from your classroom? Try some of these techniques and accommodations: Use visual cues and hand signals when speaking; write down instructions on the board and list key terms and concepts. You can also seat the student where they will be away from distracting sounds. Test taking accommodations include finding a quiet area for the student, extending time limits, and ignoring spelling mistakes. Make homework time easier by writing down the instructions for each assignment. Let your student with an Auditory Processing Disorder know ahead of time what all the assignments will be for that week.
