Cooperative learning involves young students working in smaller groups and each individual is responsible for completing their own unique task. Collaborative learning is often described as encouraging interdependence, while cooperative learning is focused on learning conflict skills. Similarly, collaborative weighs the process over the product while cooperative learning focuses on the product over the process. Lastly, collaborative learning is student-led while cooperative learning is teacher lead, which has advantages and disadvantages. A student-led learning system such as collaborative learning promotes social skills and problem-solving independent of the instructor, but the product is of lesser quality typically. An instructor-led team promotes conflict skills and proper processes to achieve complex tasks, at the downfall of learning important social skills by trying it on your own.
