The English language is regarded by many whom learn it as a secondary language to be rather difficult to learn. There is so much slang and the use of the same word for multiple meanings that it can be extremely confusing to some if not learned from birth. Even to those who are, in fact, native speakers of American English, there are a number of words or phrases that can be confusing and easily mistaken for another meaning. Examples of these confusing words and phrases include "few" and "a few". Both include the same word but have contradictory meaning. While "few" implies a negative quantity such as "There are few fans at the event", the opposite can be said for "a few". Consider the statement: "There are a few fans at the event", which implies a more positive quantity.
