Education Through Natural Learning: The Montessori Method (Infograph)

This graphic is about the Montessori Method of teaching. This method was created by Maria Montessori, a physician and educator and one of the first female physicians in Italy. The method focuses on the way children naturally learn. The first Montessori program opened in 1907 at Casa Bambini in Italy and by 1911, spread to the United States. By 1916, there were more than 100 Montessori based schools in the United States. The emphasis of Montessori schools is allowing children to learn time management skills, problem solving skills, creativity skills, and many more at their own pace. Independent learning is emphasized by Montessori schools. Unlike traditional schools, there are no grade levels at Montessori schools. Children of different ages are mixed together and there is a focus on potential rather than performance.
