Dyslexia is a learning disorder that primarily affects the skills involved in fluent and accurate word reading and spelling. Characteristic features of dyslexia are verbal memory, difficulties in phonological awareness, and verbal processing speed. It happens across the range of intellectual abilities. By definition, dyslexia is not related to mental retardation. A student with dyslexia is just as intelligent as their peers.
