Montessori-style education includes logical and compassionate limits to guide proper behavior. Teachers use an easy to follow 6 step process to assess limits set for students. Students are encouraged to participate in the setting of their own limits and are free to share their needs to better provide limits that make sense for their age, needs, development, and well-being. Clarity, love, reason, age & ability, empowerment, and safety are key concepts that provide limits that nurture children while allowing them to grow and to have fun. The process for assessing limits helps the educator understand how their own emotions or motivations may be influencing their decision-making and strives to help the teacher neutralize their responses while paying attention to the child’s needs. Compassion, respect, and support – it’s the Montessori way.
