Special Education 101 (Infograph)

Special education, or the intentional design of instruction so as to best meet needs brought on by a disability, is provided for many; major classifications of those eligible struggle with hearing, language, development, vision, and other health or emotional impairments. With 13% of the student population in special education programs, it’s important the environment is suited for each individual. This is mirrored in the way that the services provide anywhere from full inclusion in the classroom to self-contained environments in the classroom (with most in full inclusion settings). Special education is highly valued and important to ensure equal opportunity for every student. This is seen in how much we spend annually when it comes to federal funding in the US- 11.5 billion dollars (or around 16.5% of our funds)! With a high demand for educators, this field is growing as the numbers of students do. Helping others is a given with these positions, and it’s truly possible to leave an impact.
