The infograph explains what an ACEs (Adverse Childhood Experiences) is and looks at some of the common effects of ACE. According to the infographic, an ACE is a trauma that is experienced by a child. Some actions that can be considered an Adverse Childhood Experience are sexual/emotional/physical abuse, neglect, racism, and homelessness. This trauma induces extreme stress that can affect the child’s health. ACE is really hard on a child’s developing brain. It can increase hormones and amplify disruptive behaviors, such as fighting. ACEs also enhance the risk of other negative behaviors which can affect individuals into adulthood. Some of these challenges include depression, alcoholism, unintended or adolescent pregnancies, and suicidal thoughts.
