Fewer indications of ADHD in children whose mothers took vitamin D during pregnancy #adhd

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a common childhood behavioral disorder. Children with ADHD are hyperactive, impulsive and have difficulty focusing on tasks. A new study suggests that there is a correlation between ADHD and mothers who took vitamin D supplements during pregnancy. Children born to mothers with high levels of vitamin D in the umbilical blood had fewer symptoms of ADHD at 2 ½ years old.

“We had an idea about it,” says Aaby, “but we cannot say with certainty that vitamin D protects against early symptoms of ADHD. Our study only indicates that there is a link that we cannot explain in any other way.”

Study suggests possible connection between ADHD and vitamin D.

ADHD is neurologically based, meaning it involves the functioning of the brain and nervous system. A link between vitamin D and early ADHD had not been previously described, and thus the study has attracted much attention. However, previous studies have identified vitamin D as playing an important role in brain development. Additional research is planned to determine the long-term impacts of prenatal vitamin D levels on ADHD.

Key Takeaways:

1
Fewer children have developed ADHD when a mother during pregnancy takes Vitamin D.
2
The study doesn’t show how Vitamin D correlates to ADHD prevention but it does indicate in numbers a correlation.
3
This study has never been done before and hence it is attracting a lot of attention for the correlation.
