Auditory Processing Disorder (APD)

When a child or adult is diagnosed with APD (Auditory Processing disorder), the diagnoses indicates that there is a break down or lack of awareness and processing in auditory inputs, especially speech. A child with APD may be able to distinguish between the words, cat and supper fairly well; but the spoken words, dog and dad may be more confusing and harder to distinguish. A child who displays listening problems in large groups or has trouble understanding a person who speaks quickly may by experiencing APD.
