Armstrong students get a slick lesson on science and math from Flyers players #dyscalculia

Would you imagine that a sport like a hockey would have anything to do with science or math? One area school in Bristol never thought that the two could even come together but that all changed the day the Flyers came to the school and taught them the importance of an education and how it correlates to physical activity in sports like hockey.

Math with a sports twist makes it enjoyable.

The program at the school included an assembly with the professional hockey players which directed questions to Armstrong students about science questions with a hockey twist. They learned how science can make the puck move and how to figure out the radius of the puck. The students enjoyed activities to learn these subjects and to make it fun by incorporating the physical activity.

Key Takeaways:

1
Students in Bristol learned that there is a connection between hockey, science, math, engineering, and technology.
2
The assembly included just how hockey relates to the STEM by introducing kinetic energy among several other topics.
3
While not all the students were fans of hockey, they were able to put a connection to science, math and physical activity.
