Elimination of common core in Florida

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis replaced Common Core standards with alternative standards, known as Benchmark for Excellent Student Thinking. The aim of the new standards addresses the problems opponents believe hold students back. The Governor believes the new standards will exceed the former model. Furthermore, he believes other states will take notice and abandon the Common Core model. DeSantis claims changes were spurred on by complaints from parents and teachers over the concern Common Core model is rigid.
