Fearing math #dyscalculia

Do you fear math or know someone that does? Chances are that if you are like most people than you do know at least one person that fears math. But, the question now becomes do the students really need another year of math or should our attention be directed to helping them make sure that they have been taught is actually understood? Math is everywhere and literally can be used every day.

I have taught math in high school and tutored math in college. I found that once you take the fear away, they absorb knowledge like a sponge.

If you reduce your fear of math, you will succeed.

One of the best ways to have students or anyone really to embrace something that they fear is to make them believe that they can succeed. Failure seems to be a big part of fear. One teacher is doing this in small increments in a way the students might not realize. To learn more about this teacher and helping his students overcome their fear of math, read more in this article.

Key Takeaways:

1
Math is not broken down into small increments, which cause fear of the subject.
2
Testing is more important than the students’ well-being and causes them to be anxious.
3
Adding another year of math to schooling will not help them in the long run and will make students more anxious.
