More testing won’t fix students’ literacy problems

Students are facing literacy problems because of the emphasis on Math and Science in schools. The Virginia editorial "Lowering the standards" incorrectly finds elimination of learning test standards as the reason behind this decline. Schools are using technology to improve reading skills, but children are given too much choice in the selection of online books and they naturally don't choose classic literature, which is necessary. We need better teachers and better schools to improve the reading skills of our students.
The blame should be on technology and schools’ emphasis on math and science education.

Key Takeaways:

1
Tests don't make people learn school and teachers do,
2
The blame should be on technology.
3
Schools should emphasize math, science, English, and history.
