My daughter came home after her “big” math test recently. She was in tears over earning a "C." Like any parent who labors with their child for hours every night knows, a "C" can be disappointing. In dramatic fashion, my daughter told me she hates math and no longer wants to try her best. Does this scene come close to anything in your house when math is involved? It is one more reason I'm going to have to work hard to keep math fun for her.

My daughter often forgets objects (in her case numbers) quickly, so her teachers provide math homework that strengthens her visual memory skills. To challenge her, we make the math assignments competitive and full of reward--very much like the new math program at Daly Elementary School. Need a little inspiration and encouragement as you help your child overcome their “hatred” of math? Check out this article highlighting the new math program at Daly Elementary School.
