Why Elementary Math Lessons Are Changing In Florida Schools #dyscalculia

It is no secret that many children abhor mathematics. Often, they can’t see the use of it and how it applies to their daily lives. This is because math is usually memorized and not fully understood. In reality, math is a language and to understand its applications we must first interact naturally with the language and concepts in their given context. Only then can math be successfully understood and applied to daily life. Schools in Florida will be implementing new ways of teaching mathematics to students which concentrate less on drilling out times tables and more on understanding mathematical concepts and theories. Students will be encouraged to tackle math problems through a multitude of methods, so that students will have the ability to choose the process which makes most sense in the situation, rather than forcing all students to solve problems and equations the same way across the board. The teaching of mathematics has needed and overhaul for a long time, and Florida is attacking the problem head-on by implementing new ways of teaching and understanding. This change may lead to more students becoming interested in and doing well in mathematics courses.
