Dyslexia and Accommodations – New ADA Guidelines 2016 for School and Work

To enable the fair treatment of those who have difficulty learning in ways outside of the perceived norm, new guidelines are being made to accommodate these individuals. Students are not to be labeled in any way that would disparage or hinder them, but only to give them the proper assistance to compete on an even playing field.

The article is definitely interesting and useful information for someone attending school with dyslexia or parents of children attending school with dyslexia.

This assistance will also not be removed in the case of academic success, as it is implicit that the assistance allowed them to reach their potential. If the student can provide proof that they have needed accommodations in the past and still need them now, then it is the faculty’s responsibility to supply them.
The new regulation guide and letter to school districts address problematic policies which have required students and their families to undergo repeated costly testing for documentation of dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, and other LDs.
