Dyslexia is a significant educational problem. Students with dyslexia and other reading problems are at a significantly higher risk of dropping out of school. The Fourth-grade year is the bell weather year in terms of predicting whether a reading issue like dyslexia will negatively impact a student’s success in life. In fact, %75 of individuals on welfare or in prison was significantly behind their peers in reading ability by fourth grade.
Dyslexia is most commonly thought of by lay people as a condition in which learners see words backward or out of order. Dyslexia is more correctly identified as a basket of language issues with a cognitive cause. For instance, a dyslexic child might process letters correctly but have problems putting words in proper order. Or a student might have little trouble reading at all, but have difficulty processing oral instructions.
