The Anxiety of Dyslexia

Dyslexia can be terrifying for many students. And though a hefty 10-17% of the Unites States population may have dyslexia, students who are diagnosed with it or are suspected to have it will inevitably experience anxiety. Having the disorder may even discourage them from participating and taking advantage of educational opportunities.

There are few better ways to see that intimidation in action than in portrayals like in this video, which highlights the intimidation students face from their own brains and traditional learning environments.
However, students need to understand that Dyslexia is not a death sentence -- not even close, in fact. Educators need to be aware of the discouragement and anxiety that students face, and they should use that awareness to provide environments which help students achieve higher learning.
It is estimated that 10-17 percent of the U.S population has Dyslexia.
