Faces of Dyslexia: Improving Education

Dyslexia is a very common learning disorder -- perhaps more common than we want to believe. In fact, approximately 1 in 5 children are dyslexic, though only about 5% of them are ever officially diagnosed. Moreover, this video asserts that 74% of children who have a hard time reading in the 1st grade will also be poor readers when they reach 9th grade. 

Essentially, these issues continue all throughout a child's education. As the leading cause of reading failure and school dropouts in the United States, schools need to pay more attention to dyslexia, and focus their efforts early detection and reading intervention. These efforts could reduce the percentage of children reading below their grade level. Dyslexia is a treatable condition, after all, especially when caught early.
