Dyslexia Success Story: Blockbuster Filmmaker Zack Snyder

Zack Synder, director and creator of such blockbuster films as Watchmen, 300, and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, has opened up about his experience with dyslexia.

Dyslexia at a young age

In his youth, Snyder attended a small Christian Science school, where he became known even then for his resourcefulness in movie-making. He moved on to fine arts school to study painting, but quickly transferred to the Art Center School of Design in Pasadena, where he settled on filmmaking.

And throughout all of this, though, Snyder was diagnosed with dyslexia, and struggled with reading and writing

Getting creative with dyslexia

Despite this, though, Snyder found ways he could still keep the creative juices flowing through means other than just reading and writing. According to his wife, Snyder is constantly observing people, and creating drawings from what he sees. He also carries his camera around all the time, even within his own house, taking pictures whenever he gets inspiration.

Snyder realized that he needed to get creative with his dyslexia in order to fulfill his own creative endeavors. By doing so, he allowed himself to become successful even in spite of his dyslexia

Snyder burst into the film world with numerous financial hits, making him one of the hottest directors in Hollywood. His most successful films include Dawn of the Dead, 300, Watchmen, Legends of the Guardians: the Owls of Ga’Hool, Man of Steel, Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice, and the most recent Justice League. 

It truly takes a creative and unique mind to achieve what he has throughout his career. Snyder proved that dyslexia didn't define him, and anyone with dyslexia can still fulfill their dreams.
