Some school districts across the US, have held a nationwide ban on children using their fingers to count. They did this because they felt the action is babyish. Due to this, the author's daughter came home in tears because she was called out by her teacher. The author argues that scientific research shows that our brains function well when we see things. Therefore, children should be allowed to count on their fingers when it comes to numbers.
