The art of the deal: special needs child version

Read about Max, a child who is differently-abled, and an event that changed his life. Max went with his family to Disney World on vacation, and like most children, he was so impressed with the experience that he wanted to go back. And like most children, he learned that he will have to get a lot more creative with his arguments if he hopes to persuade his parents to plan another trip to Disney!
Max’s mother, who has been advocating for Max his whole life, is coming to terms with the changes this trip has brought to Max and their family. Now that Max is learning to advocate for himself, Max’s mother shares a moment of wry introspection about what Max’s new talent for self-advocacy means their family, her changing role as Max’s mother, and the way they make family decisions.
Part of me loves that Max is pushing so hard, because he is learning to advocate for himself. I’ve long done that for him, but one of my greatest hopes is that Max will learn to stand up for himself.
