Head Start Could Be Innovator for Early-Childhood Workforce, Ed. Group Says

Head Start is a federally funded program that provides preschool education to families that have limited resources or low socioeconomic status. Without this important service, many children would not get a quality education prior to kindergarten and may find themselves falling behind their peers in school. If a student falls behind at the preschool level, they may struggle to catch up in later years.
Head Start is leading the way in having teachers that are highly qualified to do the job. Nearly three quarters of all head start teachers have a Bachelors degree or higher in an early education related field. This level of professionalism will help guarantee a high level of competency from the teachers and a high level of success from the young students.
Head Start, the venerable 52-year-old federal preschool program for children from low-income families, could be serve a role in improving the early-education workforce as a whole, says a new report from Bellwether Education Partners.
