Kids, Fitness and Healthy Habits Over the Summer

Contrary to most people’s opinions, summertime is not a time for kids to stay healthy. Although you would think kids are more active, they are not. This can be due to a variety of factors, resulting in kids being extremely sedentary, which in turn hampers their fitness.

There are some simple things that you can do to make sure that your kids are getting exercise and eating healthy food. This summer, try to get your kids eating more colourful fruits and vegetables and make sure their primary drink is water.

Inactivity, sedentary lifestyle, no regular schedule and eating too many snacks throughout the day can result in weight gain. This can lead to obesity and a host of medical issues. It is highly recommended that children say active, eat colourful fruits and vegetables, and make water their primary drink.
Adults might think that summertime for kids means playing outside and burning lots of calories, but nurse practitioner Susan Cluett at UVA Children’s Fitness Clinic says that this isn’t always true. “Kids can gain an average of seven pounds during the summer,” Cluett says.
