Spelling always gives children trouble. Some people get into adulthood and still have trouble spelling some tough words. There are so many rules with spelling in the English language. Letters can have more than one sound or even be silent in words! It’s easy to be confused and have trouble with reading and writing.

The English language can be hard to learn. In spelling there are so many strange rules to learn. Some letters must always follow others. Some letters have more than one sound. Some letters even remain silent in certain words! It isn’t always possible by learning to read and write by sounding words out because of these rules.
Since the English language has over half a million words, many of them highly technical words, it is quite possible that q, v, f, and j, are silent letters somewhere.
